‘Better to die of cancer than of hunger’. This is the tragic slogan that hovers to the north of Syracuse, among the chimneys of that petrochemical pole that in seventy years has devastated one of Sicily’s most beautiful coastlines, creating a real health and environmental emergency. Built around the inhabitants who resist and those who, instead, accept a compromise with silence or resignation, Toxicily ventures into the meanders of land sacrificed on the altar of progress, modernity, and globalization.
