In August 2023, a caravan went into the Southern Apennines briefly inhabiting six small towns and building a traveling festival together with those who do not surrender to the abandonment of villages that, depopulated, lose their voices. Fare Paese (To Be a Village) attempts to return a plurality of perspectives; it is a choral tale where the aspirations and fears of those who return meet and clash with those of the ones who never left.

Marta Violante, Silvia Miola, Danny Biancardi

The film’s three directors are members of La Bandita, a cultural association founded in Palermo by a group of documentary filmmakers. It believes in the value of collective work, produces non-fiction films and develops participatory filmmaking workshops.

Involved as authors in the film are four members of Frange Mobili, a collective for inclusive architecture and territorial regeneration that promotes community development, inclusive processes, and socio-ecological justice practices.
