Manuel and Davide are two inhabitants of Montescheno, a village of just over 600 souls in the upper Ossola Valley. On the morning of January 9 2016, the two boys died in an avalanche in Rothwald in the Swiss mountains during a ski excursion. Six months later, a race called Val Brevettola Skyrace was born and dedicated to them. Seven years later, the memory of Meme and Dado still echoes among the mountains that surround and protect Montescheno. Through the words of the people who live in those places, Winter’s Echo tells what it means to deal with the mountains. The processing of mourning through sport and through the love of one’s country is just the starting point for a story that wonders what it means to live with death for those who live in Montescheno.
