In the eyes of an artificial mind, the last thirty years of David Rumsey’s life, spent amassing one of the biggest historical map collections in the world he secretly calls his poem, seem like an unexplainable quest. It will follow him on a road trip, where Rumsey confronts the ghosts of his past and the end inching closer an closer.
Andrea Gatopoulos
Andrea Gatopoulos is an Italian film producer, director, and distributor. He was born in Pescara in 1994 and currently lives in Rome, where he graduated with honors in 2016 in Modern Literature with the thesis Virtual reality and image culture in the civilization of entertainment. He founded the production company Il Varco and produced 21 short films, 4 feature films and the publication of 5 books. He is the artistic director of Il Varco – International Short Film Festival. He also founded the arthouse screening Short Days and the film distribution Gargantua Film. His film productions have been presented at more than 120 festivals around the world, including Cannes, Locarno, Venice, Camerimage, Rotterdam, Rome, and Turin. In 2020, he worked alongside Werner Herzog on his film Accelerator in Leticia, Colombia, in which he developed the filmed correspondence Letters to Herzog and the short film Flores del precipicio. He was among the finalists of the 2021/2022 Zavattini Prize. His short film Happy New Year, Jim premiered at the Cannes Film Festival during the 54th Directors’ Fortnight. In 2023, he created “Eschaton Ad” during the Locarno Spring Academy with Radu Jude and presented it in Locarno in August. He also attends the Creators Lab in Yucatan, where he studies with Apichatpong Weerasethakul. His first feature film, A Stranger Quest, shot between the United States and Canada, premiered at the 41st Torino Film Festival.
