Bakhtegan wetland is a horrific picture of nature’s continuum as an old ecosystem and the helplessness of humans for survival. A picture of semi-abandoned villages whose few inhabitants have no hope for their future. Tent dwellers – Khasham Neshinan who live in half-stone half-tent shelters- old and tired, and the youngsters who have abandoned the herds and have started working in the stone mines in the south side of the wetland. Bakhtegan wetland is the horrid repetition of a drama, the collapse of an ecosystem on Homo sapiens, who are incapable of understanding the simple language of nature.
Faraz Fadaian
Faraz Fadaian studied architecture. He began his design career early in 2010 as a professional CG artist. He was always passionate about landscape photography and documentary filmmaking. He made his first documentary about Lake Urmia The Last Breath after 11 years of research on the water crisis in Iran. His second film, Luckless Lake, about the most important drainage basin in Iran – Bakhtegan, is having its world premiere at the 10th Apricot Tree IDFF. He plans to work on other remaining lakes and lagoons in the Plateau of Iran before they are completely forgotten.
